Psychiatric Rehabilitation Counseling

Victory Health Care Services provides community-based mental health services to children and adults with an Axis I DSM diagnosis. Therapeutic services are offered in group settings or on a one-to-one basis in their home or community.

PRP services are designed to promote positive peer interaction, effective communication, self-help skills, and completion of age-appropriate activities of daily living. VHCS PRP Program provides an array of services to adults, youths, and families in Maryland. VHCS PRP services are available to Counties and city residents who have a mental health diagnosis and actively involved in mental health therapy.

VHCS PRP services are intended to empower and assist individuals in developing appropriate social skills, enabling individuals to make positive life choices and become engaged in positive ways in domains of life including home, school, work, community, and job readiness (adults only).

Through VHCS PRP services, individuals receive assistance in developing skills and knowledge to utilize community resources and become active participants in their community. VHCS PRP staff help arrange care with other behavioral health providers, as necessary.

What is PRP 

Psychiatric rehabilitation promotes recovery, full community Integration, and improved quality of life for persons who have been Diagnosed with mental health condition that seriously impairs their Ability to lead meaningful lives. Psychiatric rehabilitation services are Collaborative, person directed, and individualized. These services are an Essential element of the health care and human services spectrum, and should be evidenced based. They focus on helping individuals develop skills and access resources needed to increase their capacity to be successful and satisfied in the living,working,learning and social environments of their choice.(Anthony and Farakas,2009,pg.9)

How did I meet the Requirement for PRP?

You were referred for services by a licensed mental health care professional and have been diagnosed with a particular mental health disorder that has been approved by the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene.

What does PRP cost me?            

Nothing .it is paid for your medical insurance through Medical Assistance.

What do I have to do to Receive services?
Be seen for at least 2x per month for mental health services. It can be a combination of any of the services listed below:

  •  Individual Therapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • Medication Management

How do I participate?  

For children and Adolescents (6-17)         For Adults (18 and older):

  • Meet with your counselor 4x
  • Attend one group session per month
  • Attend at least 1 session on site at our agency. (Transportation provided)
  • Meet with your counselor 6x per month.
  • Attend one group session per month.
  • Attend at least 1 session on site at our agency. (Transportation provided)

What does my Counselor assist with? 

Counselor use your treatment plan from therapy and assist you with Creating goals that will address the current symptoms of your diagnosis. They also assist clients with identifying community resources and Provide support for accessing these services. Community resources and provide support for accessing those services. Community resources include but are not limited to shelter services, food bank, SSA,SSA,resume building, etc
